Raw Motherhood photography allows the mother to be seen and for the moms to see themselves

My name is Casey Louise and I am a mother and also a Seattle motherhood photographer. In my experience Raw Motherhood sessions are, the art of capturing motherhood in its unique and intimate form; in a way that provides emotive images that provoke nostalgia. That is the short definition that I have created based on my own personal experience. I am going to take you through a more thorough explanation that will not only describe what Raw Motherhood Photography is, but also why it is incredibly important to capture.

I want to begin with a deeper acknowledgement to motherhood itself. Even if you are not a mother yourself, if you are interested in capturing this experience you must have a appreciation and understanding for what motherhood is and what it means. Keeping in mind the individual experience, Raw Motherhood Photography evokes universal emotion and nostalgia. As a photographer of any kind, you want to capture the true personality and relationships of your client.

Motherhood looks different for every mother. Becoming a parent changes your life. It is humbling, challenging and incomparably rewarding. A person can identify as a mother through many different avenues. I am going to name a few that come to mind, however there are plenty more. You of course could be a birth mother who biologically grew and birthed your child, or you could be a step mom, an adoptive mom, a surrogate mom, so on and so forth. These different types of mothers are all going to have different and unique experiences throughout their motherhood journey. While motherhood has the huge responsibility of raising a new human, each of our children is their own person and nobody is exactly the same. This for me, brings up the importance of community and support. Raw Motherhood Photography captures their special and individual experience while also supporting and relating to other moms. It allows the mother to be seen and for the moms to see themselves.

Raw motherhood sessions can be captured during any stage of motherhood. This could be an intimate maternity session, those fresh and vulnerable newborn days or anytime during the toddler stage. Motherhood sessions could document a breastfeeding/chest feeding journey or simply capture the undeniable bond and relationship between mom and their child.
